Secretary Corner

As we welcome in Popil, Linstro, David, and Dim as new Stewards of the MarComms and Metaverse Working Groups, it is sometimes hard to remember exactly what each group does. Here's a list of initiatives and tasks each group is working on.

Note: This is not a complete list of tasks.

Stat of the Week

We have traditionally seen an increase in proposals during election seasons. While it wasn’t the case earlier in this current election cycle, it has started to ring true again recently. There was a 6.90% increase in proposals in process last week.

Election Voting

Last week, the final round of Metaverse and Marketing & Communications Steward Elections concluded. Here are the two winners of each.

This week, we have the final round of the Special Council and Governance Steward elections live on Snapshot. Voting ends at 6 PM PST on Wednesday 12/20. You can view the nominees and vote on Snapshot here. Here are the current results:

Round 2 (SC - top 3 will win)

Round 2 (Governance - top 1 will win)

AIP Live Voting

There are also four proposals in the Live Voting stage this week. Voting ends at 6 PM PST on Wednesday 12/20. You can view the proposals and vote on Snapshot here.

AIP-315: Formation of the Steering Committee and Publish Language and Market Focus Strategy for 2024-2025

This proposal is a result of previously approved AIP-259, which signaled the DAO’s desire to create a steering committee, conduct research, and recommend market(s) which align with outlined objectives.

AIP-315 focuses on the first two milestones in AIP-259, as it proposes different options to establish a steering committee to lead the process of formulating a language and market focus strategy for 2024-2025. It presents the following five options to the community and only one would be able to be selected:

  • Option A: Internal Steering Committee

    • Option A1: Community Committee ($22,000)

      • Chairman ($4,000)

      • 6 Members X $3,000 ($18,000)

    • Option A2: Foundation Committee ($0)

      • 2 Members from the Ape Foundation

      • 2 Members from Special Council

      • 1 Member, AIP-259 Author

  • Option B: External Consulting Company as Steering Committee

    • Option B1: Levin+Riegner ($54,000)

    • Option B2: Web3 Studios ($12,000)

    • Option B3: BDC Consulting ($60,000)

You can find the full proposal, including a detailed cost breakdown, here and the current voting results are below.

AIP-321: Founders Circle Powered by ApeCoin

This proposal aims to setup three offices worldwide. They would include access to online educational resources, 1:1 sessions, networking opportunities, exclusive invitations to IRL events, and access to the DAO’s community and investor network. A website would also be included to allow DAO members, founders, and guests to access co-working spaces and participate in events through the use of tags.

The timeline would run until 2027 and the proposal is requesting 9,000,000 ApeCoin. You can find the full proposal, including a detailed cost breakdown, here and the current voting results are below.

AIP-368: ApeChain - A zk-Powered Polygon Layer-2 to Support ApeCoin Growth

This proposal is requesting the DAO to utilize Polygon Labs to launch and maintain its own zero-knowledge powered Layer-2 (“zk-L2”) with the Polygon Chain Development Kit (“CDK”) to develop the ApeCoin ecosystem. It would include the following:

  • The launch of a dedicated ApeCoin zk-L2 chain (“ApeChain”) built and maintained by Gateway dot fm, a rollup as a service (“RaaS”) provider who would build Web3 infrastructure and tooling products with advisory support from Polygon Labs

    • Oversight of such building and maintenance would be conducted by the Ape Foundation

  • Ecosystem collaboration with Polygon Labs with a goal of stimulating the growth of ApeCoin-integrated projects (experiences, entertainment, games and consumer applications) and ApeChain-related public goods (middleware, marketplaces, and necessary infrastructure)

This ApeChain would be fully owned, governed, and run under the patronage of the ApeCoin DAO community. 100% of revenue, including sequencer fees or any potential native yield, would accrue to the ApeCoin DAO and ApeCoin validators.

The proposed timeline would include about four months of work, detailed below:

  1. Alignment (4 weeks): Determine contours of collaboration on technical matters and ecosystem development.

  2. Strategy (4 weeks): Determine best network development given ApeCoin DAO feedback on “Gateway dot fm as a RaaS Provider and Architecture Considerations,” including validator selection, gas and validator fees, and data availability. Other strategic considerations might include, but are not limited to, block time, block size and front end business logic (if any).

  3. Scoping (4 weeks): Determine the appropriate path to integration, including interoperability, bridging etc.

  4. Integration (2 - 4 weeks): Build and deploy.

It is requesting up to $200,000 to build, deploy and maintain ApeChain for one year. None of the expenses would be paid to Polygon Labs or any of their affiliates. Instead, they would be used to pay Gateway dot fm and its infrastructure costs. The DAO would decide for itself how it would fund and maintain ApeChain in subsequent years. You can find the full proposal here and the current voting results are below.

AIP-375: Bored Brewing, $APE on Consumer Beverages and $APE Taproom - AIP Resubmission

This proposal is a resubmission of AIP-341. You can read Bulletin Bored Issue 80 from just over a month ago to view my initial overview of that proposal. According to the author, the updated proposal would include:

  • A Bored Brewing Taproom built both IRL and in The Otherside

    • IRL version would be built in Canada and open to the public

    • ApeCoin holders and other qualified NFT holders of legal drinking age would be eligible to receive discounted beer and other perks

  • Overall cost would be increased by about $75,000

  • 2% of equity would be returned to the DAO

This proposal is asking for 149,696 ApeCoin. You can find the full proposal, here and the current voting results are below.

AIP Completed Voting

There were two proposals that completed the voting process last Wednesday. Here are the final results for each:
