The Bulletin Bored: A Busy Week Ahead

(Issue 36)

Contributions to this week's newsletter made by

Welcome back for another issue of The Bulletin Bored, where I provide news, analytics, and other information on the Apecoin DAO and broader BAYC ecosystem.

It’s going to be a busy week. We have three Live AIPs currently up for voting and at least five more coming on Thursday. In addition, we have updates from Jimmy’s Trial, Mutant Hounds, Applied Primate, and Jenkins the Valet all coming on 1/11. It’s safe to say it’s going to be an eventful next few days.

  • ApeTalent (from AIP-91) opened their doors to the entire Ape community today

  • ApeFest will not be happening during NFT NYC this year

  • The next phase of Jimmy’s Trial is on Wednesday (1/11)

The Delegation site built by Brian Wagner and Maaria Bajwa is now live. You can find the link below, as well as my delegation statement.

For those who missed my Tweet last week, here is the Live AIP December Recap. Voting metrics were comparable to November with a:

  • Slight increase in % of people voting on 50% or more proposals

  • Slight increase in % of people voting on 100% of proposals

  • Slight decrease in # of unique voters

For more analytics like this on the ApeCoin DAO, please check out my Dune Dashboard here.

There are three proposals in the Live Voting stage this week. Voting for each ends at 6 PM PST on Wednesday 1/11.

Eight active community members, including myself, formed ApeComms with a goal to provide three core services:

  1. AIP Education & Support

  2. Communications Support

  3. Discord Development & Management

To solve three distinct problems:

  1. AIP authors struggle to develop AIPs on Discourse

  2. Official communications lack full-time support and resources

  3. There is currently no public Discord for the ApeCoin DAO to collaborate

Beyond this, ApeComms exists to support the community by giving them a voice to share their opinions and ideas. We host Twitter Spaces three times a week and open our doors to anyone looking for questions on how to get started in the DAO. This includes helping set up a profile on Discourse, reaching out to members of the community, and providing feedback on ideas.

You can find the full proposal here and the current voting results are below.

This proposal aims to add a new Discourse Category to let the community know when proposals enter and exit the “Administrative Review” part of the AIP Draft process.

There are no direct expenses to implement this AIP and the proposal states it would be implemented right away if it were to pass.

You can find the full proposal here and the current voting results are below.

DropVerse is a platform for geolocation-based NFT drops similar to Pokémon Go. It is an interactive app that gives out gifts “including mint passes, NFT redeemable items, tokens, and more in both fixed physical locations and also spawned automatically around users’ geolocations.”

There are four types of drops:

  • Static Drops: pop-ups and event drops at fixed coordinates on a map

  • Airdrops: delivered directly within a user’s radius

  • Spawned Drops: NFTs randomly generated within x-miles of a user

  • DropCrates: Randomized rewards earned by unlocking a crate. Can be generated as any other drop type and require specific NFTs in your collection to unlock.

After a user collects a pass they are able to redeem it in the app and have the corresponding reward sent to their external wallet.

The app and web view are both already built out and users have already been actively using the platform. The DropVerse team is asking for 500 ApeCoin per month (6,000 for the full year), 100% of which will be distributed to users.

Here is a write-up I did a few months ago on the project.

You can find the full proposal here and the current voting results are below.

Wait, that’s not all! We will have at least five more proposals up for a vote on Thursday as well. Check back next week for updates on these.

Amplify is proposing to add the Abstain option to the Live Voting process with a goal of increasing voter participation. Currently, people who do not want to affect the outcome of a vote or those who do not feel strong enough one way or another might choose to refrain from voting. The Abstain option would allow them to cast their vote and show their participation without having to vote in favor or against.

You can check out the full proposal here.

Back in October, AIP-112 (Forever Apes, free luxury physicals for all $APE holders) was approved by the DAO with a 94.5% pass rate. Fast forward to today and the Forever Apes team was gracious enough to provide a few updates of where they currently are in the process.

  • All four BAYC founders have committed to participate

  • Upon receipt of funding, the team will move immediately into production

  • Claim is tentatively scheduled for early February (shipping to follow 2 weeks after)

The team also graciously provided a few mockups on what they are working on. As you can see below, the designs are 🔥

Former Apecoin DAO Special Council Member Maaria continues to keep the community informed on what is happening across the Web3 community with her weekly newsletter. Below are some of the updates from her most recent issue. You can subscribe to the full version here.

  • Bored Ape Yacht Club’s ApeFest will not happen during NFT.NYC this year.

  • Animoca Brands is targeting $1 billion for its upcoming metaverse fund, instead of $2 billion as originally expected.

  • Mastercard and Polygon announced the "Mastercard Web3 Artist Accelerator," a program starting April 2023 and designed to support musicians launching NFTs.

  • 2022 saw $24.7 billion in NFT transaction volumes, nearly on par with the $25.1 billion seen in 2021. The number of unique traders increased by 877% in 2022, reaching 10.6 million

  • DeLabs, the startup behind top Solana NFT collections DeGods and y00ts, announced it received a $3 million grant to move y00ts to Polygon. In a community post, DeLabs founder Frank said the grant will be used to expand the team and launch a crypto incubator to support its NFT ecosystem.

  • NFT marketplace SuperRare announced it was laying off 30% of its staff.

  • Proof Collective, the startup behind NFT collection Moonbirds, signed with United Talent Agency.

  • The creator of NFT project Mutant Ape Planet was arrested at JFK airport in New York this week. Aurien Michel, a french citizen living in the UAE, is accused of a “rug-pull” and defrauding token holders of $2.9 million.

  • Logan Paul is threatening to sue YouTube influencer CoffeeZilla over a video he produced alleging that Paul defrauded his fanbase out of millions with his NFT project CryptoZoo.

Thanks for reading this week’s edition! As mentioned above, a lot of ideas are being proposed on the Discourse forum nearly every day. If you have one of your own and are unsure where to begin, please reach out to me so I can help you get started.
